Michelle Marshall-Johnson is from the Bear Clan of the Mi'kmaw Nation. She is married to Philip Johnson and together they live in Eskasoni First Nation, in Unama’ki - Cape Breton, NovaScotia; they have five children and five grandchildren. Michelle has the love of family, community and the environment and especially the preservation, promotion, and revitalization of Mi’kmaw traditional Knowledge. Her experiences for more than two decades as a teacher, EducationalAdministrator, Associate Professor and currently as Director of Mi’kmaw Language & Culture with Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey. This has enabled her to establish a wide network and help communities to promote and develop programs to promote the Mi’kmaw language in Nova Scotia.
