J.R. Isadore is the IT Manager for Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey. As a part of the Atlantic First Nation Tech Services team, his responsibilities include keeping all tech running smoothly for our clients, which can range from network operations and security to mobile app development.
Working directly with key leaders in the IT industry, J.R. is able to utilize the best technology for the AtlanticFirst Nation Network, strengthening connections between students, teachers, administrators and MK employees. Additionally, J.R. is part of the MK App Development team, combining his passion for Mi’kmaw language learning with his knowledge of coding and design to create educational apps for Mi’kma’ki and beyond.
Outside of Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey, J.R. proudly coordinates the annual Wallace Bernard Memorial Native Youth Hockey Tournament with his brother, Mike. Since 2007 and with the help of a team of dedicated volunteers, they have continued their grandfather’s legacy, making the Wallys a marquee sporting event for the Mi’kmaw Nation. J.R. is also a member of several drum groups and sings both pow wow and ceremonial. He is a sun dancer and a pipe-carrier, having gained his traditional knowledge through ceremony by visiting, helping, and learning from Elders of various nations throughout Turtle Island.
Originally from the Membertou Mi’kmaw Nation, J.R. now resides in We’kopekwitk (Truro, NS) with his partner Sharon and their daughter.
