Giselle Stevens is from Eskasoni First Nation. She is the proud wife of Clayton (Magoo) Stevens, and together they have three children. Giselle is passionate about the Mi’kmaw Language, and it shows because her children are fluent Mi’kmaw Speakers. Her two oldest graduated from the Mi’kmaw Immersion Program and both were awarded as “Top Mi’kmaw Speaker” while the youngest is currently enrolled at the Immersion School. She is extremely proud of her children and believes the language will be passed down for generations to come.
Giselle Stevens has worked with Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey since 2018. She began working at the Mi’kmaw Language and Treaty Education Assistant but later became the Mi’kmaw Language Coordinator. Giselle has always had a passion for Culture and Language. She worked with the Eskasoni Cultural Journeys for 5 years where she was the tour guide and met people from around the world. She was able to share the beautiful Mi’kmaw Language and Culture to others before she wanted to further her education. Giselle obtained herBachelor of Arts from Cape Breton University in 2015 and went on to complete her Bachelor of Education at STFX in 2017. She worked with the Eskasoni School Board as a Grade 1 Teacher for 1 Term before she moved to Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey.
Giselle loves to spend time with her husband and children. Her favorite time of the year is July where she gets to go camping on the Mniku during mission. She also loves to play cards especially 45 & 75. She also loves watching her kids play sports such as hockey, baseball and basketball.
