On July 7 &8, Mi'kmaq youth in grades 5-8 travelled to Halifax to take part in an exploration of the construction trades. The event invites youth, along with a caregiver, to visit the Trades Hall to take part in hands-on activities related to several trades in the construction sector.
The youth and their caregiver spent the evening at a hotel on July 7th, where they also went to supper and a movie as a group. The following day was spent at the Trades Hall. Students learned about proper safety protocols and were fitted with some Personal Protective Equipment before heading into the trades hall and exploring the trades. They spent the day trying different trades before heading home in the afternoon.
We had a great group of students and families and look forward to offering this opportunity again next summer!
