On September 20th, schools across the province celebrated Nitap Day. The celebration of this special day began in 2013 as a way to put a positive spin on anti-bullying. Nitap, the Mi'kmaw word for friend, was used to mark the day which encourages friendships and celebrating having fun with friends by playing games, dancing, and working together.
Every year on Nitap Day, each student in our Mi'kmaw Schools receives Nitap swag in the form of hat, toque, bandana or shirt. This year our schools received orange shirts with the Nitap logo on the front and Every Child Matters on the back.
Some of the events that took place included relay races, parachute games, bouncy castles, BBQ, cultural activities and a hand print collage to be the I in KIND. Nitap Day also marked a very special event in Eskasoni where they celebrated breaking ground for their new high school!
