Mi'kmaw Kina'matnewey held our annual Symposium from May 16th to the 18th. The event had originally been planned for March but due to restrictions on group sizes, the event was pushed into April. In April, climbing covid cases within communities required the event to be rescheduled again. When we were finally able to host it in May, everyone was so happy to be together again!
The three-day event began on Monday at lunch. The agenda for the event involved community presentations showcasing the amazing work our communities have been doing, short targeted presentations on issues such as mental health, Mi'kmaw language, attendance, and technology, discussion questions following those short presentations, and a review of our MK operational plan for 2022/2023.
The trivia sessions during break time were a huge hit with the attendees and of course the draw prizes are always a treat. This year, the prizes included crafts purchased at our local craft fairs, clothing from Mi'kmaki Strong, MK swag and our apple prizes - the iPad, iPhone and apple watch.
Everyone felt so inspired by listening to what has been going on in other communities and engaging in brainstorming sessions. We are really looking forward to what is being planned for the coming year!
