On November 17th, 2023, The Mi'kmaq Sport Council inducted 6 new members into the Mi'kmaq Sport Hall of Fame. The inaugural Mi’kmaq Sport Hall of Fame was held in 2016. The Council saw the need to enhance the awareness and importance of the historical and cultural component of sport within the Mi’kmaw community of Nova Scotia and recognize and celebrate outstanding sport achievements and contributions of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq.
The Sport Council wanted to recognize not only athletes but also coaches and builders- the people who make opportunities available for athletes to excel in their sport. Each year they announce a call for nominations in one of those three categories. The winners are then celebrated, along side their families, at a banquet as part of the Sport Summit.
