Our Marine Emergency Duties Camp was such a success in 2021, we held it again in 2022
The Marine Emergency Duties(MED) and Domestic Vessel Safety(DVS)camp was held at NSCC Strait Area Campus for the second year. The program is designed to provide the knowledge of emergency response required to safely work aboard a vessel, to determine the hazards associated with the marine environment and their own vessel, and how to prevent shipboard incidents including fire.
The camp ran from July 11-14 for students aged 15-19. The first 3 days of the camp were dedicated to the MED and DVS training. The final day was spent completing the training in the morning, followed by a visit to the Marine Navigation and Marine Engineering simulators, a presentation highlighting careers at sea and finally the presentation of their Transport Canada Certificate.
The program consisted of a mix of in-class learning and hands-on activities. Students were on campus daily from 8:30 – 4:30 and spent their evenings at Camp Rod.
