Students from ALHS went on a field trip to the NSCC Strait Area Campus Nautical Institute on March 18th. They were accompanied by their Science & Oceans teacher Carrie Cress and High School Navigator Melanie Paul.
The students took part in a wide range of activities such as simulation rooms, sending flares, putting on survival suits and much more. They learned about different types of boats and how they work. They had an opportunity to use their own tv screen and saw how it would look to be in control of a ship out on the water and they also got into the pool (with survival suits) and go into an escape pod. It was a fantastic day and such a great opportunity for students interested in careers at sea.
