LSK Wellness Space

March 26, 2025

Wellness consultant Tammy Bernard met with Mental Health Elder Leanna MacLeod in September of 2024 to talk about creating a Smudging Space at LSK School. This space would be uses as a place where students could have a safe space to come to smudge and have some quiet time to reflect.

On March 24, 2025 the project began at LSK school. Elder Leanna told Tammy a story about picking the colour for the space. “ I walked into the store and was drawn to this colour so I handed it to the clerk. When I looked at the name of the colour it was called Basket Weave." Leanna hired Roderick Gould, a local artist from the community. When they first met to share ideas Roderick told Leanna his vision for the space was to incorporate a basket weave design in this mural. This story shows how Spirit works within each of us to create this project.

Elder Leanna also included the students of LSK in this project and had some students from each grade come to help paint the wall of the smudge space. We are all very excited to see how this project will look when completed. The estimated opening date is set for the end of April.
