LSK hosted a Math Showcase along with our first ever School Waltes Championship on May 13th. Students from several of our MK schools made the trip to Sipekne'katik for a fun filled day! They had an opportunity to share some amazing math projects. The work showcased how math is important for so many things such as art, beading, cooking, games and so much more!
The waltes competition was very exciting for students participating and those watching as well. It was so great to see the students getting the concept of how to count and keep score. There were some really intense matches! The LSK planning committee also set up some hands-on workshops for students to take part in if they were in-between matches or just wanted a break form their projects. It was a fantastic idea and the students took advantage of this opportunity.
All students who attended had the opportunity to win some great door prizes! There were a whole lot of really cool math games available which were a top choice for the students.
In the end, there were some crowned champions for the waltes tournament who left with a plaque and cash prizes in three different categories. Congratulations to all the winners and we can't wait to see it happen again next spring!
