Diorama Projects - This year in Social Studies, the students in Middle School worked on dioramas. They brought to life 3-d characters and sceneries with shoe boxes and materials both bought and made. Students labelled and explained what they created. They all did a beautiful job and their creativity really shines through with this project.

Grade 5/Middle School Mi'kmaq Class - Punamujuiku's land- based activity was exciting, yet challenging. Students from Raylene's class had the opportunity to learn how to prepare and set snares. Students were taken on the land to learn where to set rabbit snares and what sorts of things to look for, such as rabbit paths and tracks. Students were guided by the four R's (respect, responsibility, relationship and reciprocity) while on the land and the principles we as Mi'kmaq must follow when harvesting. Our Grade 5 EA, Oonig Ward was the lucky harvester bringing in 2 rabbits (apli'kmuj). Oonig, along with our EA Jackie demonstrated how the rabbits were respectfully prepared for usage. Before learning how to skin and clean the rabbit for consumption, we offered a smudge ceremony for the apli'kmuj and gave thanks to their spirit for allowing us to learn.

The Grade 5, 6, 7 & 8's took to the slopes on Jan. 31st, great way to end the month. Despite the temperature everyone had a great time skiing and snowboarding.
