(Story submitted by Irene Endicott - Principal)
Due to a rise in Covid-19 cases over the Christmas Break, our school delayed opening for two weeks, and then went to remote learning on January 17. We hope to be back in person learning in our beautiful school on Monday, February 7.
Our students, parents and teachers have risen to the challenge of online learning. An iPad was distributed to each student, along with a paper learning package. Our Tech Integration teacher, Kim Dorrington is quick to resolve any technical issues that come up. Weekly snack packs can be picked up at the school foyer. Attendance has been excellent.
Our teachers from Head Start to Grade 8 have daily live online classes through Google Meet, and use the Seesaw platform and Google Classroom to create and receive completed assignments and learning activities, and keep in contact with families. Our student Support Workers and Resource teachers join the classes virtually and are making use of the Breakout rooms to work 1:1 or with small groups for extra help.
We look forward to getting back into our school building. Our custodians are busy doing a deep clean of the school, and with all the protocols in place, we look forward to a safe return to in-person learning.
Reminder: If you are in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), we encourage you to visit the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and check out Ta’n me’j Tel-keknuo’ltiek (How Unique We Still Are). Our Grade7/8 students are featured in a display of a wooden boat they built with master boat builder Eamonn Doorly, and painted during a three day workshop with artist Alan Syliboy.
