Interview with an Educational Assistant - Raylene Nicholas

September 28, 2024

What is your name and where do you work?

My name is Raylene Nicholas and I work for the Pictou Landing First Nation Daycare.

How many years have you been working as an EA?

I have been working as an EA since January or 2023.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

The most rewarding experience of my job is knowing that I am helping support our Mi’kmaq youth in the early years for learning our language one word at a time.

Can you describe an accomplishment that has filled you with pride in your career?

Working alongside such happy and loving children makes this the most rewarding and fulfilling job, which is also the reasoning behind why I chose to enroll in the Mi’kmaq Early Childhood Education Program so I can continue to do what I love to do.

Do you have any mentor’s you’d like to mention or give a shoutout to anyone who influenced you to work in education

I’d love to give a shout out to Bridget Worthen who gave me the opportunity. She believed in me and encouraged me to further my education in a work field that I fell in love with.
