Mi'kmaw Kina'matnewey hosted a Female Youth Leadership Camp from September 10-12 at Kejimkujik National Park. The camp was open to 2 female youth, aged 14-16, from all 12 of our MK communities. Although the weather network was predicting some rain, 10 girls from across the province braved the forecast and came out for the weekend.
The youth who attended had an amazing experience. They set up tents on Friday evening and had the evening to get to know each other. Saturday they began their day with some morning yoga and meditation then spent the day doing activities in the park such as learning about how traditional birchbark canoes were made, exploring the petroglyphs, and kayaking. They had the opportunity to learn to dance the Kojua with Beverly Jeddore and they also took part in a session where they were able to provide feedback on what they would like to see during NAIG 2023. They finished the day with a craft and listening to stories around the fire with Michael R Denny.
The weather cooperated for the entire weekend and they girls went home on Sunday with some new friends and new experiences!
