Students at Wagmatcook school have been taking part in many activities this month such as knitting activities, making ribbon skirts and ribbon shirts, and making rattles.
Guyswork has also started at the school and the Red Road youth have been offering activities after school to keep the students active.
John Dennis, Nurse/Dietician has been offering cooking lessons for healthy eating once a month. He also taught the youth about Kitpu this month. The lessons on caring for a feather were shared and discussed. The class began with a smudging ceremony (ourselves, the parts of kitpu and the tools that will be used to remove feathers from the wing). A teaching on how to interact with all of kitpu’s sacred items was done with love and respect. Our students learned why kitpu is sacred, and on how to remove feathers from the wing respectfully. Students learned how the feathers will be used, and how to care for them afterwards. The students learned the biology and anatomy of the wings and tail. Our knowledge keeper did an incredible job sharing teachings with our students…Wela’liek John!
