This month, we brought educators, grade 12 students, elders and knowledge holders together this month at an event called Coming to Circle. The idea behind this event came from a conversation between our Academic Services Director Janean Marshall and Elder Jane Meader. They spoke about the importance of ceremony and came up with the idea to bring students and teachers together to take part in and learn about ceremony.
Coming to Circle was held at the Tidal Bore Rafting Resort, which is owned and operated by Sipekne'katik First Nation. With this beautiful setting as the backdrop, the group had the opportunity to make their own hand drums, take part in ceremony, learn about the importance of self care, and make some wooden flowers.
The event was initially planned for December but a whether event caused it to be postponed until this month. Although the weather was quite cold outside, the space was warm and cozy and the food was fantastic.
Everyone who attended left with a full cup and are looking forward to learning more.
