We held our annual Indigenous Youth Skilled Trades Fair this month where High School students from across the province gathered in Halifax and had the opportunity to explore the construction trades.
The students arrived in Halifax on Sunday November 5th and got together for a banquet supper that evening. They really enjoyed hearing from our keynote speaker Chris Gallant from Skills Canada who talked to them about the many opportunities in skilled trades and technology careers.
Bright and early Monday morning, the students boarded the bus to head out to try some trades. Half of the students went to the Mainland Building Trades building and the other half went to the Trades Hall. On the following day, they changes sites so they all experienced everything the trades fair has to offer.
They took part in safety instructions and had hands-on experiences with trades such as bricklayer, boilermaker, electrician and many more.
In their downtime, the students went to see a movie, went to the mall, used the pool and gym in the hotel and took part in craft or cultural workshops
We had an amazing time with a great group of students.
