Terry Bernard has recently been hired with Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey as our Community Sport Liaison. Terry comes to us from Wagmatcook where he worked as a Mi’kmaw Physical Activity Leader (MPAL). His role in that job was to develop a strategy plan for physical activity for Wagmatcook First Nation and help deliver the plan and help guide it in how the strategy was put into motion. He was also the NSMSG coordinator for the 2011 and 2017 Wagamatcook Summer Games.
In his new role with Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey he will assist and implement initiatives while providing leadership in area of sport for the First Nation communities. He will lead contact with sport Canada to ensure that all funding/grants are completed. He will also provide support for First Nations communities in existing sport and recreation delivery systems. Terry will be helping to provide opportunities with communities and community members around leadership in sport. He will be working to coordinate sporting events such as NAIG, NAHC and our MK sports summit, including the selection of elite teams.
