My name is Eliza Gould. I am 18 years old and I go to ABMHS in Eskasoni

What clubs, teams, or groups are you involved in at school, and after-school?

I played for the girls basketball team, soccer team, and softball team. I always volunteer to help out with teacher and peers and was tutoring kids from the elementary school. I also volunteered to always help with waltes during lunch and teaching my peers the game and helped some students during lunch hour with some school work.

What’s your favourite subject in school?

My favourite subject is English or gym.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why?

I’d go to different Indigenous communities around the world and learn about their culture and how they do things like hunt, fish, and their traditional teachings.

What do you like to doin your spare time?

I like playing catch with my siblings with gloves and a softball or going fishing with my siblings or by myself, or walking my dogs at Goat Island.

What are your plans for when you graduate, and why? What do you see yourself doing ten years from now?

I don't really know what I want to do because there are so many things I want to accomplish but I think I will be letting life guide me and see where I end up. I want to do trades, I want to get degrees, I want to do everything which seems crazy but maybe anything is possible.

Do you have a role model? If so, who? And why?

My Kiju is my role model. She has taught me so much and shaped me into the person I am today.  I will forever be grateful to have such a great, wise women in my life because of how much respect and wisdom she has taught me I will cherish everything I learned from her.

My best memory is playing the sports and all the field trips I've been on, I learned so many things and getting closer with my friends and understanding other people while playing sports with them.

What is the best thing about your school?

The best thing about my school are the teachers. The teachers are so great here. They are the most friendly and understanding people I've met. They would do anything for their students and are always so positive.

Who has made an impact on you?

My family and teachers have made an impact on me. They are probably the most supportive people in my life and I’m forever grateful for them. Also my friends that were always there for me no matter what happened.

Is there something you'd like to see in your school or community that isn't there now?

I’d like to see more gym times and more culture camps on learning how to make drums, ribbon skirts, earrings and etc. I also think that something that isn't here that should be isa student council and a support group to help others with all kinds of things.

Do you have any words of advice, a personal favourite quote, or a thank-you?

My advice is to never give up on something that you wanna do. It’s your life so do what u want and don’t let someone control you, that isn't healthy. Do what makes you happy because being happy makes a big impact in your life and also others around you.
