One of our goals at Mi'kmaw Kina'matnewey is serving communities. We try to accomplish this goal in several different ways and one of those ways is by offering new and exciting opportunities to youth across the province. This summer we held our very first multi-media camp in an effort to introduce students to the arts and the possibilities in the field of media and film.
The camp, which was facilitated by Justin Rain, Violet Rain, and Eric Schweig, was held in Membertou from August 7-11 and was open to Mi'kmaw students from across the province. They spent their days learning about the film industry through activities such as script writing, filming, editing, acting and much more. At the end of the week, the students invited their family and friends to a screening event where they proudly shared the films they worked on over the week. It was a very successful week and we are hoping to offer this again in the future.
